Looks like I might have been wrong...

...when I said government would not nationalize oil and gas until the last possible moment as process of obtaining oil for government use, after means of demand destruction.

House Democrat(s?) Call for Nationalization of US Refineries

(hat tip: Drudge front page)

Among other things, the Democrats called for the government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply.

...Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling (at 1115 said): "We (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market."

Some Democrats are apparently willing to let necessary usage for government and food transportation go by the wayside and waste more non-renewable resources on their friends and neighbors. Where they think we're going to get more gas for fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, food delivery, etc., they conveniently neglect to mention. They're more worried about the next elections than about the long-range survival of their constituents.

I shouldn't be surprised at such stupidity, but I am. Are there ANY adults in Washington? Or are we doomed to economic destruction because a bunch of adolescents who want what they want (and want it now) are in charge? Save resources for the truly necessary services? - don't be silly! Save resources for the future? - heck no! Electric rail, trolleys, streetcars, buses and walkable communities? - forget it! After all, we're Americans! We DESERVE 40% of the world's resources for our 5% of the world's population. Cough it up, people! Our way of life is "non-negotiable!"

Now, I wouldn't be opposed to nationalizing the oil and gas resources of our country if I was reasonably sure that they would be allocated strictly for necessary civil service usage and nothing else - but that's not what's going to happen, class. They're going to waste tons of gas & diesel that could have kept the emergency services and food delivery services going for the next 100 years and instead blow it on 10 years of private automobiles privileges for people who are too stupid and lazy and proud to use mass transit - because the voters are just as adolescent as the politicians are.

Frankly, America deserves what's going to happen to it. Arrogance, greed and excess are the basis of our culture, and it deserves to die. It's a shame we can't just grow up. No, that would make too much sense.
