They found the excuse they wanted.

It didn't take Obama long to cough up an excuse - US Aid to Israel is going to end, one way or another. First excuse up: Refusal to allow Israeli town to build housing for newly married couples and relatives moving nearby for relocalization.

U.S. Support – Only with Construction Freeze

( The United States may link its support for Israel on the international stage to a complete construction freeze in Jewish areas of Judea and Samaria. The plan to force Israel to freeze construction if it wants international backing was reported Sunday in the New York Times, which based its report on testimony from unnamed members of the Obama administration.

The plan would primarily affect support for Israel in the United Nations, where the U.S. has traditionally torpedoed anti-Israel initiatives and proposals placing disproportionate blame on Israel in conflicts with her neighbors.

The U.S. and Israel have disagreed over the subject of Jewish cities in Judea and Samaria under the Obama and Netanyahu administrations. Netanyahu insists that residents of existing communities must be allowed to build within city limits in order to house their growing families and married children, while Obama has insisted on a complete housing freeze, regardless of natural growth...

...U.S. officials clarified that Israel will remain “a critical United States ally” even if America decides to cut off support in the UN. U.S. loan guarantees to Israel will not be affected, they said.

American pressure on Israel regarding Jewish life in Judea and Samaria may be linked to Obama's upcoming speech in Cairo, analysts say. Obama is scheduled to give a historic address to the Muslim world from Egypt on Thursday.

I don't believe the "loan guarantees" and US direct aid will, in fact, continue much longer. It's time for Israel to cut the apron strings and do what is necessary for peace in her borders, whether the rest of the world likes it or not.

UPDATE: Obama's the new pharoah who does not know Yosef.

'Obama's Settlement Decrees Are Like The Pharaoh's'

Jerusalem - "The American demand to prevent natural growth is unreasonable, and brings to mind Pharaoh who said: Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river," Science Minister and Habayit Hayehudi head Daniel Herschkowitz said Sunday, referring to US President Barack Obama's demand to freeze all settlement activity, even that ensuing from natural growth.

Speaking ahead of the weekly cabinet meeting, mathematician Herschkowitz furthered his point with a simple equation. "If there is a family that expands from one child to four or five, what should we tell them - to ship the children off to Petah Tikva? This is an unacceptable demand, even if it comes from the Americans, and Israel should reject it decisively," he affirmed.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai said, "The American demand to freeze construction means expulsion for young people living in large locales. I hope the US administration understands that. If not, I don't want to be an apocalyptic prophet saying we're facing struggle and confrontation. The concessions they're demanding of us are a security impediment we cannot withstand..."

Nor should they. If America wants to dispense justice for people forced off of their homelands, let Obama give the Dakotas back to the Sioux, and the Ohio Valley back to the Shawnee, and so on. America is living 100% on stolen land. Israel is living on land acknowledged by the entire ancient world, including the Koran, up through the 20th century to be the land appointed by Hashem to the people of Israel.

Who needs to stop growing and give back land? America, not Israel.

1) The UN lacks any teeth in its intiatives. Security council condemnations mean nothing. Just ask folks in Darfur. So a lack of US veto won't change anything meaningfully.

2) Obama can huff and puff about US aid but there's also a Congress and so far they haven't fallen in line with anything else he's proposed.

And what does a guy have to do to get listed on your blog roll?

Well, I have to like your blog. Haven't seen yours in a while. Maybe I'll look at it later tonight - got some errands to do now. Shalom.

OK, I saw your blog. I don't see that it has a lot to do with mine or any of the issues that are important to me. In fact, what you have written seems terribly schizophrenic. Your top message says you are writing about what is wrong with modern orthodoxy. But your posts seem to be arguing MOs position - arguing against stringencies that the UO are not going to give up. Make up your mind.

And clearly we don't have the same goals in mind - I want an inclusive Judaism that respects every Jew's right to freedom of religious thought and expression. I believe men who don't have an adequate modern secular education are not qualified to lead. You apparently do...

Well, I could go on but my son informs me we're about to get hit by a thunderstorm, so I have to shut down the server. I think you get the point.
