Jim Bunning has lost his moral compass (if he ever had one).

In case you thought I was exaggerating when I said that the Republican strategy to deal with the unemployed and uninsured is to tell them to go die in the street and stop bothering them, here is your proof. Bunning's hometeam basketball game was more important to him than doing his JOB - making sure families don't end up starving and homeless due to his REPUBLICAN Robber Baron buddies outsourcing all their jobs to places that pay fifty-cents an hour so they can make Billions-with-a-B in profit instead of mere millions or mere hundreds of thousands.

Jim Bunning Repeatedly Blocks Unemployment Benefits Extension, Tells Dem 'Tough Shit'

Jim Bunning, a Republican from Kentucky, is single-handedly blocking Senate action needed to prevent an estimated 1.2 million American workers from prematurely losing their unemployment benefits next month.

As Democratic senators asked again and again for unanimous consent for a vote on a 30-day extension Thursday night, Bunning refused to go along.

And when Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) begged him to drop his objection, Politico reports, Bunning replied: "Tough shit."

...And at one point during the debate, which dragged on till nearly midnight, Bunning complained of missing a basketball game.

"I have missed the Kentucky-South Carolina game that started at 9:00," he said, "and it's the only redeeming chance we had to beat South Carolina since they're the only team that has beat Kentucky this year...

Well, God forbid. Let me tell you a little secret, though, Bunning. What God really forbids is what you're doing to the poor and sick - and you will answer for it, sir. The judge of all the earth will do right, whether you do or not.

I am forty-(cough,cough) years of age this past month. I first registered to vote promptly at my 18th birthday and registered Republican. I have worked as an election worker for the last several years, as a Republican judge and Clerk at various polling places around town. Last month, I went to the County Clerk's office, resigned my election worker designation, and changed my party affiliation to Democrat - even though this means I will be disenfranchised for the primaries, by law. I did this because the Republican Party is hopelessly screwed up - not that I believe the Democrats are much better, but because they at least sort of remember what their values are supposed to be: upholding of basic human rights for everyone and progressive political policy. The Republicans used to be the party that stood for Biblical principles - now they can't even recognize them (except concerning abortion, which is an unwinable fight). The Republican Party now has no understanding of the Social Contract or its purpose, now has no understanding that things other countries recognize as basic human rights are indeed basic human rights, and has thrown off any semblance of Biblical practice by actively acting against the poor, the oppressed, the fatherless, the homeless, the widow, and the sick - many of whom are oppressed, made homeless and left sick by the Republican's own greedy and manipulative acts to drive down wages and benefits to third world levels.

Bunning's attitude is representative of the Republican party - get on with the high life, who cares about the poor? - and that is why I left the Republican party. It no longer represents Biblical values, or even middle class values. And it certainly doesn't represent me. Bunning and his ilk are loathsome and disgusting, wolves in sheep's clothing, who take billions in corporate welfare from the government every year and then spend more billions on foreign military activity that benefits the American public in no way whatsoever - and Bunning has the gall to piously pretend unemployment benefits are a problem due to the deficit? The deficit THEY MADE by their wars for oil and their immoral military empire that spans the globe, costing the American people billions of dollars, and whose sole function is to rob undeveloped nations of their natural resources and guarantee profits to his Robber Baron buddies? They are evil, pure and simple. They have been corrupted by power and greed. The Republicans have lost any semblance of ethics or morality or even common decency. And I will no longer be associated with them.

Sooooooooooo, Obama is president of the United States, and the state of the economy is all Bunning's fault?

His fault the economy is screwed up? He's been a congressman 6 years, I believe, so that's a big YES. It's also his fault his priorities are screwed up.

IF, heaven forbid, you lost your job, would it be responsible of you to continue to spend money on sports and art and wars (let's just say you had one going) instead of taking care of the basic needs of your family, knowing your income may not improve for a long time to come?

Congress is in loco parentis to the nation and is supposed to deal with the annual budget in an intelligent and realistic manner. Both unemployment and healthcare could have been covered and then some if not for their war for oil in Iraq and for oil security in Afghanistan. And why do we need military bases in Europe? It's not our job to give free security to the rest of the world - if they want US bases let them pay for them in full.

And so on and so forth.
